Irene Pleasure, Ph.D., is Vice President of Intellectual Property and Associate General Counsel at Vir. Dr. Pleasure has over 19 years of experience in the life science legal field.
After practicing intellectual property law at Morrison and Foerster and Quine Intellectual Property Law Group, Irene joined Genentech’s legal department in 2003, where she was for 13.5 years. During her final 6 years at Genentech, she headed up the patent group, which was a Wall Street Journal recognized patent law group consisting of about 60 professionals and staff, and was a member of the Roche global patent leadership team where she is involved in strategic oversight of patent issues both at the local and global level. Irene was also a member of Genentech’s legal leadership team from 2008 until her departure, where she participated in developing and implementing the 5-year legal strategy plan. After leaving Genentech, Irene became VP of Intellectual Property at Achaogen, where in addition to overseeing the Achaogen’s IP portfolio, she helped navigate the business through IP aspects for the NDA filing and approval of ZemdriTM (plazomicin). Irene brings experience in drafting, prosecuting, and managing worldwide IP portfolios and drafting, negotiating and advising on a broad range agreements for a number of company projects and participating in patent litigation areas. She also brings her recognized skills for leadership and people development and for being an effective collaborator across corporate and global cultures.
Dr. Pleasure has a J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law, a Ph.D. in biochemistry from Thomas Jefferson University, and a B.A. in chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania.
