EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT AND SENIOR RESEARCH FELLOW

Amalio Telenti, M.D, Ph.D., has served as Executive Vice President and Senior Research Fellow since May 2023. Dr. Telenti joined Vir in April 2019 as Senior Vice President and Chief Data Scientist, and later became Executive Vice President and Chief Data Officer, where he led data operations, data sciences and computational biology efforts. 

Prior to joining Vir, Dr. Telenti served as Chief Scientific Officer at Human Longevity, Inc., Chief Data Scientist at the Scripps Research Translational Institute and professor of genomics at Scripps Research. At Human Longevity, Dr. Telenti and his colleagues advanced the company’s genomic science and research to address the needs of personalized medicine. Prior to 2014, he served as professor of medical virology at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland. 

Dr. Telenti has been recognized for his many contributions to the field of host-pathogen genomics, and is an elected member of the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences.

He received his medical degree from University of Oviedo, and his Ph.D. in microbial genetics from the University of Saragossa, both in Spain. He completed his internal medicine residency and fellowship in infectious diseases at the Mayo Clinic
