George Scangos, Ph.D.
George Scangos, Ph.D., has served as a member of our Board since January 2017.
His decades-long career in the biotech and biopharma industry includes executive leadership roles as founding President, Chief Executive Officer and board member of Vir, Chief Executive Officer and director of Biogen, Inc., President and Chief Executive Officer of Exelixis, Inc. and President of Bayer Biotechnology.
Before joining Bayer, Dr. Scangos was a Professor of Biology at Johns Hopkins University.
He is a former Chair of PhRMA, and the California Healthcare Institute. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Global Alliance for TB Drug Development.
Dr. Scangos currently serves on the boards of Agilent Technologies, Inc., Voyager Therapeutics, Inc., Octave Bioscience, Rezo Therapeutics and Life Sciences Cares. Dr. Scangos is currently a venture partner at ARCH Venture Partners.
Dr. Scangos received his B.A. in biology from Cornell University and a Ph.D. in microbiology from the University of Massachusetts. After post-doctoral work at Yale, he joined the faculty at Johns Hopkins University, where he currently holds an appointment as Adjunct Professor.
